Hi! I am back from my Cohort 1, Year 2 Day 1 STEM Professional Development Program Training (yup, this is how I am spending three days of my break). I learned a great deal and met some really motivated educators from the Albany and Middletown areas. My AP/College Board trainer, Ms. Syers, was from New Mexico and taught us about effective thinking strategies for all students. I learned some great strategies to use to strengthening reading comprehension and content vocabulary. I am looking forward to tomorrow's training which will deal with science strategies. I also learned about a great online resource for teachers. For more information, go to the Teacher Resources page.
Why start a blog when I have a webpage?
1. My original webpage was not all that exciting or very inspired,
2. I would like to include a lot more but I felt limited to how much I could modify my page, and interact with students and parents,
And most importantly,
3. Several of my students have dial-up or no internet at home. This makes it hard for them to access my original webpage. But, most of my students have phones or other mobile devices and my blog can be accessed on those. Yeah!
So that is why I have decided to set up this blog. I hope it will be accessible and useful to all who visit. If you have any suggestions about how I can make this blog easier to use or things I should add, please let me know!
I added a couple of new resources to the Teacher Resource section. Check them out!
Snow days are AWESOME!
This is my first blog post. I am making the jump from my less than lackluster school webpage to this format. I have spent the last couple of days with help from my son, Sebastian, (who is for lack of a better term a "computer whiz") setting up this site and my other son, Michael, is involved with editing. My husband, Bill, is giving me ideas for links to add to the resource sections. It is a family affair. Well, here goes!
My name is JoAnn Fredette. I am a teacher at Schenevus Central School in Schenevus NY. I teach high school Living Environment, Chemistry and AP Biology. I have created this site to be a resource for my students, their parents and other science educators. Here and there I will also post about things that I am up to outside of school too.
